Clash Over Mobile Charging Leaves 50 Injured in Sylhet

At least 50 people were injured in a violent clash between two groups over a dispute involving mobile phone charging at Companiganj Police Station area in Sylhet. The confrontation occurred on Saturday, lasting from 5 PM to 9 PM, at the main point of the police station area in the upazila.

The injured were rushed to the Companiganj Upazila Health Complex for treatment. While the identities of those involved remain unknown, hospital sources confirmed that at least 50 individuals sought medical attention following the clash.

During the conflict, shops were vandalized, and a vehicle was set on fire. Police were initially unable to control the situation. However, the arrival of a military team at the scene helped restore order.

Dr. Shakera Khatun Rupi, a medical officer at the Companiganj Health Complex, stated, "So far, (11:50 PM) 50 people have received treatment at the health complex. Among them, two individuals, in critical condition, have been referred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. One person has been admitted to the upazila health complex, while the rest left after receiving primary treatment."

Local sources revealed that the clash began with an argument between a resident of Borni village and another from Kathalbari village over charging a mobile phone. The dispute escalated when one individual was reportedly assaulted, prompting residents of Borni village to block the road in protest. This led to a confrontation between people from Companiganj, Borni, and Kathalbari villages, with both sides wielding traditional weapons.

Companiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ujayer Al Mahmud Adnan said, "Upon receiving information, police and military personnel rushed to the spot. The situation is now calm. Police and military forces are currently stationed at the scene."
